CEFCA gets FITE funding to finish the OAJ and start the GALACTICA project

The Centro de Estudios de Física del Cosmos de Aragón (CEFCA) will receive 6.5 million euros from Fondo de Inversiones de Teruel (FITE). This fund was signed by the Gobierno de Aragón and Gobierno de España on November 30, 2012.

This fund will allow ending the additional facilities of the Observatorio Astrofísico de Javalambre (OAJ) and supporting CEFCA operation. 800.000 euros will go to the GALÁCTICA project, while 2 million euros will be used to co-finance the contribution obtained from FEDER fund.

The remaining investments of the Observatorio Astrofísico de Javalambre will be covered by this fund. Additionally, it will also be used in the acquisition of scientific cameras' filters, electronics and optics laboratory material and the elements of the Unidad de Procesado y Archivo de Datos (UPAD) which will allow storing 2.5 million Gigabytes of scientific data generated by the first two years of operation of the telescopes.

Part of this fund will go to undertake Phase 1 of GALÁCTICA project, an outreach center that has been projected in the village of Arcos de las Salinas (Teruel). It is intended for scientific, informative, educational, cultural and environmental use.
